This video features the Nexus 7. When shooting on set, it's difficult to capture both the talent and the action happening on the device screen. As a result the screens are often shot clean, with nothing on them. The next step is where I come in. Movie magic!
Often projects call for something different than motion graphics. My work as a VFX artist throws me a variety of different live action shots, onto which I will composite animations. In this case I tracked the motion of the talent, rotoscoped the fingers moving in front of the screen, match-motion animated the device screen along to the talent movement, and composited it all together to match the footage.
This video features Tempered Glass, a product designed to keep a smartphone screen protected from an unexpected fall. This project's challenge was to track, rotoscope, composite, and animate everything on the phone. The addition of a somewhat translucent screen protector in the footage meant a lot of careful, pixel perfect decisions.
Listicals are common ways people get hints, tips, advice, suggestions, and other information. For this project I animated 10 items in a listical about "Travel Hacks" surely concocted by people who do a lot of it.
In addition to animating I also created the illustrations, starting with motion studies sketches and storyboarding. I selected the color palette and got to illustrating.
